Entitled-itis and AI
Monday 1st June 2026
Literally meaning an inflamed sense of entitlement is, according to many, an ailment suffered by the youth of today.
Is that unfair?
Probably.
Alan Milburn in his ‘Lost Generation’ report thinks so too.
There is zero doubt that many youngsters expect everything to be handed to them on a plate.
It crosses all classes.
I witness public schoolboys ‘charming’ their parents into giving them all they desire whilst expecting to be fast tracked to senior jobs without grafting in any way. Good luck with that attitude in the modern era.
Hard-working taxpayers suffer from gullible civil servants at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) coughing up their taxes to benefits savvy families and their kids. The latest soft option seems to be claiming mental health issues prevent them from working.
Businesses cop the blame for not taking on young employees. With huge increases in NI, equal minimum wages for young people, a poor economic outlook and this Labour Govt. making it more difficult to get rid of poorly performing employees, is it any wonder that businesses would rather explore AI solutions?
But despite the above, as Pete Townshend of The Who wrote in 1965 ‘the kids are alright’.
I know of quite a few of my son’s generation who are coming good. Getting stuck into hard work with an admirable enthusiasm.
What has any of this got to do with property, I hear you saying.
Not a lot, save that STANLEY Property London are taking on a summer ‘intern’. We like to do this when we can and it can lead to long term benefits for all.
Gone are the days when students could be given work experience for free. We now have to pay through the nose as if it were any normal employee. This year I was debating whether it was worth it but was persuaded by the pro-activity of a young woman who simply kept asking!
The Kids are Alright.
Until next time….
