Tory Hymn Sheet
Tuesday 21st October 2025
Kemi ‘Bad-or-Not’ made a dramatic announcement at the Tory conference.
When elected(!) she would abolish Stamp Duty on our own homes. The audience and the press loved it, but the latter immediately started asking where the ‘lost’ revenue would be made up.
She showed a true politician’s lack of foresight by not briefing her colleagues that the increase in sales transactions from zero Stamp Duty would increase the tax take, in the form of VAT receipts from all the activity around a property transaction.
So much so that the extra VAT might even outweigh any lessening in the Stamp Duty take.
But no… her economically illiterate colleagues were left floundering.
If the Tories intend to take the stance that they are the party to be trusted with the economy, they need to at least sing from the same hymn sheet and adopt the mantra…….
Reduce the tax rate to increase the tax take.
Until next time,
